The Northland region has the highest remaining population of North Island Brown Kiwi, which make their homes in both native reserves and plantation forests.
Plantation forestry started during the Great Depression of the 1930s as the country sought a replacement for kauri and other native trees for building and paper.
With a vision for a vibrant, sustainable and respected forestry industry, the Northland Wood Council represents plantation forest owners and managers and leads best practice and innovation.
