Agriculture is really important for the New Zealand economy – it's also one of our biggest emitters of greenhouse gases.
We grow a new pine tree around every 30 years, and sheep in New Zealand tend to live no more than 7 years. Over its lifetime, a single pine tree can absorb the emissions of one sheep.
Scientists are working to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases produced by our sheep and cows, but for now, our fast-growing pine trees are our best answer to climate change.
